Artificer Attack Roll Spells: What Spell Should You Choose?

If you are an Artificer and you’re tired of your DM rolling and making the monster saving throws then what are your attack roll spell options? To maximize your options, you’ll have to select the right Artificer Specialist. The Artillerist gives you an additional option while the Alchemist gives you two more.

Here is the list of the spells that are available:

  • Firebolt (Cantrip)

  • Ray of Frost (Cantrip)

  • Shocking Grasp (Cantrip)

  • Thorn Whip (Cantrip)

  • Ray of Sickness (1st level) – Alchemist only

  • Melf’s Acid Arrow (2nd level) – Alchemist only

  • Scorching Ray (2nd level) – Artillerist only

  • Bigby’s Hand (5th level)

Most of these are the same spells that are affected by the Spell Sniper feat, and the link can take you to that article. The Spell Sniper feat is not the best option for the Artificer, but then again you could pick up Eldritch Blast but it would be a Charisma-based spell.

So, do you care whether you make an attack roll or if the enemy gets a saving throw? Let me know in the comments below.
